Ashgrove House, Brisbane
This early 1900s, two-level Queenslander was never lacking in charm and character, but it needed an update to accommodate the social lifestyle of the owners. Our role was to completely re-design and build the kitchen and make the living and dining areas – both inside and out – feel energetic and connected. At the core of the entire scheme is the art, which we both sourced and curated.
A gallery-like foundation allows the vibrant colours of paintings to pop while also referencing the exterior and the bright and airy climate. The reconfigured kitchen now includes ample storage and a more modern, open-plan layout for entertaining.
Through a carefully considered application of materials – including concrete, brickwork and timber – this seemingly monochromatic palette is injected with interest and personality. A thoughtful selection of art and furniture also ensures this home will remain relevant for years to come.

“The quality that sets AP Design House apart is that great talent is allied with great business skills. Replies are prompt, costs are clearly explained and negotiated, budgets are respected, delays are advised, problems identified and rectified, options provided and opinions respected. On top of this is an obvious love of the work and genuine shared enjoyment of the outcomes – Alex has a fierce desire to provide a perfect conclusion. We could not be more satisfied.”
